Pregorexia: Dieting While Pregnant
Pregorexia is a new buzz word for eating disorder. pregorexia is a disorder similar to anorexia but one that occurs during and after pregnancy.
According to Ivanhoe Newswire there are ten million women suffer from an eating disorder. By age 20, 86 percent of women who are anorexic will have other health issues. But it's not just a disease that strikes young women. Even moms-to-be risk it all to be thin.
Even pregnancy is one of the joyous rites of being a woman but the process of carrying and giving birth to a child can be full of stress.
pregorexia causes the mom-to-be who suffers from it guilt and shame similar to what is experienced by almost all sufferers of anorexia. heightened by the sense of responsibility toward her unborn baby and the stigma that she may feel is associated with a woman who can't properly care for her baby.
Too little weight gain can very damaging for both mother and baby. and lead to premature and low birth weight babies who have increased likelihood of developing a wide range of physical and developmental problems in the future, just like :
heart disease, depression, poor growth, etc.
that's why every stress is very much the enemy of a healthy pregnancy. creating an environment for the pregnant women to feel comfortable is a must.

Would You Like some Tea?
I prefer to choose Black tea. The flavonoids found in black tea are more complex than those found in less processed teas, but in any kind of tea, antioxidants are believed to have health benefits including cancer prevention, to reduce cholesterol, and protection against stroke and heart attack. The study shows that black tea also rich in manganese and potassium, and it contains some B-vitamins.
Take a cup of tea and enjoy it...

How Much Vitamin D You Need
The best way to optimize your vitamin D levels is through appropriate safe sunshine or safe tanning bed exposure.
Under summer sun conditions it is frequently possible to generate about 20,000 units of vitamin D by exposing your skin to the sun. You will not overdose this way, as when you’re exposed to the sun, the UVB rays cause vitamin D to be produced in your skin while the UVA rays in the sunlight will tend to destroy excessive levels of vitamin D circulating in your body . It is somewhat of a natural fail-safe mechanism that prevents overdosing.
However, there are many times when it can be nearly impossible to get enough sun.
In these cases, supplementing with vitamin D is acceptable, but I strongly recommend you monitor your blood levels regularly when taking oral vitamin D supplements to make sure you’re staying within the optimal range.
Also, be sure to choose the right form of vitamin D supplement. The one you want is the natural vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which is the same vitamin D your body makes when exposed to sunshine.

Crisis of food or crisis of energy?
And suddenly I wish if I could magically transfer the 1000 calories in this vanilla crepes in front of me to a malnourished child begging in the kampongs far away from my cozy house? Sharing the extra calories eaten in the fancy place in glamorous of Jakarta that would end hunger children or malnutrition children.
On the otherhand we often see obesity among young people skyrocketing because they are positively overeating. As we know prepare goodfood is a hospitality and being a good parent requires that we force feed those we love. More than that the excess weight and lack of activity make people get tipe 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease and some type of cancer.
In the recent years so many people shouted about "crisis of the energy" but never shout about crisis of food, how come??

E-Cigarette to quit smoking
All of us already know what tobacco can affect to our health, not only to women, pregnancy and the children. Today I knew from an email came to me that Status of Indonesia of the Global Tobacco Treaty Map not yet signed and ratified. And Indonesia position is in the same level with Somalia, Uzbekiztan, Turkmenistan, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone.
I know not only Indonesian Government but all of the people I think must unite to push for positions ( signed and ratified ) that would prevent the spread of tobacco addiction, disease and death.
The World Health Organization estimates that broad implementation of the global tobacco treaty could save up to 200 million lives by 2050. For the countries that have ratified it, the treaty has already begun to change the way tobacco corporations do business – and now that it has taken effect as international law its impact will be even more dramatic. But the tobacco industry will not give in without a fight.
Well.... i't s still another choice to reduce or to quit immediately for you as smokers. ...Maybe you should find THIS information... The e-Cigarette.The e Cigarette acts very similar to a regular cigarette, producing a nicotine vapor that can be inhaled. It eliminates the harmful toxins contained in tobacco smoke! Over time, start using lower level nicotine cartridges until you get to the no nicotine refills. This can help regular smokers slowly reduce their dependency on nicotine. The electronic cigarette is not necessarily meant to be a quit smoking device, but rather an alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes.
E-cigarettes were invented by Hon Lik of electronics company Ruyan in Beijing, China. Ruyan sold its first electronic cigarette in May 2004, and e-cigarettes have been growing in popularity ever since. Accurate figures are hard to come by, but Ruyan - the world's biggest manufacturer - claims to have sold over 300,000 in 2008. Smart Smokers, one company which sells Ruyan's cigarettes in the UK, says sales are rising exponentially. In the US, hit TV show The Doctors featured the e-cigarette in the top 10 health trends of 2008. In a world where smoking is increasingly socially unacceptable, the e-cigarette looks like a success story in the making.
Well would you try an electronic cigarette for yourself....

Are YOU a Cheese Lovers
Well if it is cheese made from vegetarian rennet then there is no concern. But the issue is with cheese made from natural rennet. Rennet is extracted from the stomachs of calves and contains enzymes that are used in the cheese making process. Bellow are quotes from scholars of the four schools.
Al Mabsoot, a Hannafi reference, states: “Cheese is halal even if it is made by Zoroastrians (polytheists of Persia who used to worship fire) because it is narrated that a servant of Salman al Farisi, when he was a governor of al Mada’in, brought him a basket full of cheese along with some bread and a knife. Salman (ra) would cut pieces of the cheese and hand it out to his companions and would explain to them how cheese is made.”
The Maliki book, Manh al Jaleel says that “Imam Malik disliked cheese because it was made by rennet of animals that are not slaughtered according to Sharia rules (maitah).” The author quotes another Maliki scholar, Abu Ishaaq al Tunusi as saying that “the cheese of the Zoroastrians is definitely haram but the cheese of the people of the book is halal.”
In Sharh al Bahja, a Shafi’I reference, cheese is allowed as long as the rennet is obtained from a properly slaughtered halal animal that is only feeding on milk otherwise the contents of its stomach are najis (impure).
Kashaaf al Qinaa’ in Hanbali fiqh states that the cheese of the Zoroastrians and other polytheists is allowed even if it is made from rennet of animals they slaughtered. Which means that the cheese made by the People of the Book is also allowed.
By far the most detailed in his discussion of the topic is Ibn Taymiyyah. He talks about it in the fatawa v4-p396, v5-p29, and v9-p218, 240 and 241.
He states that there are two opinions regarding the cheese of the animal that is not slaughtered according to sharia rules. According to Imam Abu Hanifa and one narration from Imam Ahmad it is halal (keep in mind that we are talking about the rennet and not the meat of the animal). The other opinion is that it is najis and that is according to Imam Malik, al Shafi’i, and the other narration from Imam Ahmad. The stronger opinion is that it is halal because when the Sahaba opened the land of Iraq they ate from the cheese of the Zoroastrians and this was common among them.
Ibn Taymiyyah was further asked about the cheese imported from the Ifranj. The Ifranj is Arabic of ‘the Franks’ and this was the name given to the people of Western Europe. Since the largest group among the early crusading armies where the French, the Arabs called all the peoples of Western Europe Ifranj.
The summary of Ibn Taymiyyah’s answer is that the reason some say their cheese is haram is because when they ship it by sea they seal it with lard and secondly because they do not slaughter their cows but they kill them by striking their heads. He responds to the first concern by saying that sealing the cheese with lard does not make it all impure but only the parts that touch the lard. If that part is removed the rest is halal. Rasulullah was asked about a rat that falls into butter and dies. He said remove the rat and the butter around it and eat the rest. If a rat does not contaminate the butter it falls into, how can we claim that all the cheese becomes impure when the lard is only on its surface?
His response to the second concern is that it is reported that they do not kill all their animals by striking the head but they only do that with cows, and even then, they would still slaughter the cow after it falls down and this does not make the animal haram. And even if we would consider this animal to be haram there are two opinions concerning the rennet extracted from it.
In conclusion it is the opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah that cheese is halal not only if it is made by the People of the Book but even if it is made by polytheists.
Obviously these quotations from the scholars are on cheese per se and do not take into account the economical boycott considerations that Muslims may have against certain nations.
Some of our historians mention that a barbaric polytheistic people would raid al Andalus every now and then. These where from the Scandinavian states. They were Danish, Swedish or Norwegian. They were men of the sea and would attack the Muslim coastal areas of the Iberian peninsula and kill and pillage before disappearing again into the seas. They once reached all the way up to Seville but where driven out back to the sea after a total stay of around forty days. Some of them stayed behind in al Andalus in a place called Shuraish and became Muslim and lived on raising cows. Since they were experts in dairy products, the cheese of Shuraish became famous and they would make a pastry from it called mujabinaat. Apparently this treat was so good there was a famous saying in al Andalus that “whoever visits Shuraish and does not have mujabinaat is deprived.” There are even lines of poetry talking about mujabinaat. Talk about fans of cheese!

gestational diabetes
Her weight 4100 grams and height 53cm. From the source (Science Daily News) reported that gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs only during pregnancy. Like other forms of diabetes, gestational diabetes affects the way your body uses sugar (glucose) — your body's main source of fuel. The result may be dangerously high blood sugar levels.
Any pregnancy complication is concerning, but there's good news. You can manage gestational diabetes by eating healthy foods, exercising regularly and, if necessary, taking medication. Taking good care of yourself can help ensure a healthy pregnancy for you and a healthy start for your baby. The doctor will ask you to begin the glucose challenge test by drinking a syrup glucose solution. An hour later, you will have a blood test to measure your blood sugar level. A blood sugar level below 130 to 140 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) is normal on a glucose challenge test, although this may vary at specific clinics or labs. If your blood sugar level is higher than your clinic's threshold, you'll likely need a second test again to confirm the diagnosis.
Thanks God, gestational diabetes is temporary. Blood sugar levels usually return to normal soon after you delivery the baby. But for my entire life I have to watch my weight. Your risk of developing gestational diabetes increases if you have prediabetes — a precursor to type 2 diabetes — or a close family member, such as a parent or sibling, has type 2 diabetes. You're also more likely to develop gestational diabetes if you had it during a previous pregnancy, if you delivered a baby who weighed more than 4.5kg, or if you had an unexplained stillbirth. I hope it will not happen to me ( for more information : WebMD )

The Plastic World : Effect on Fetal Growth & Reproduction
Exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and flame retardants (PBDEs) are strongly associated with adverse health effects on humans and laboratory animals. A special section in the October 2008 issue of Environmental Research -- "A Plastic World" -- provides critical new research on environmental contaminants and adverse reproductive and behavioral effects.
Plastic products contain "endocrine disrupting chemicals" that can block the production of the male sex hormone testosterone (phthalates used in PVC plastic), mimic the action of the sex hormone estrogen (bisphenol A or BPA used in polycarbonate plastic), and interfere with thyroid hormone (brominated flame retardants or PBDEs used in many types of plastic). So far, it can affect human, animal and environmental health. [check the source from here please..]

An Apple a day Keeps the Doctor Away
An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Or, what appears to be more accurate: An apple peel a day might help keep cancer at bay, according to the medical journal, The Lancet. Scientist suggest that a natural chemical from apples works even better than vitamin C.A phytochemical found in apples, has even stronger anticancer activity than vitamin C. As you know, phytochemicals, such as flavanoids and polyphenols, are plant chemicals that contain protective, disease-preventing compounds.
Vitamin C has several important functions in our body for the synthesis of amino acids and collagen, wound healing, metabolism of iron, lipids and cholesterol and others. In particular, vitamin C is a well known anti-oxidant that scavenges free radicals.
In pre-clinical studies, vitamin C appears to substantially reduce the effectiveness of anticancer drugs, say researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
In the study, Rui Hai Liu and Xiangjiu He point out that apple consumption has been linked to a reduced risk of chronic health problems such as lung cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Traditional advice on eating apple peel was based mainly on its fiber content, with peel packing about 75 percent of the dietary fiber in an apple. So don't peel the apple please! Pomegranate Juice Better than Green Tea

Researchers say pomegranate juice has higher levels of antioxidants than do red wine and green tea, which have also been investigated for their potential cancer prevention effects.
The pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) fruit has been used for centuries in ancient cultures for medicinal purposes.
For a long time, the fruit has been widely consumed fresh and, more recently, in beverage form as juice. In other studies, the fruit has been shown to suppress inflammatory cell signaling proteins in colon and prostate cancer. The fruit possesses other remarkable anti-tumor-promoting effects.
The fruit also contains poly-phenols, natural antioxidant compounds found in green tea, as well as isoflavones commonly found in soy, and ellagic acid, which is believed to play a role in cancer cell death. The fruit is native to Asia, from the Himalaya to the Middle East.
The pomegranate was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians. Dried fruits have been found in Bronze Age tombs. Moses had to assure the Israelites that they would still have pomegranates when they reached the Promised Land. The Greeks and Romans celebrated pomegranates. Shakespeare's Juliet insisted to Romeo that it was a nightingale that sang from the pomegranate tree. Pomegranates have many culinary uses in the Middle East and Asia. Besides being eaten raw, the juice is used in traditional Persian, Caucasian, and Indian cooking. Grenadine is a concentrated pomegranate syrup used to flavor drinks. [source from here]
Milk Powder Tainted with Melamine
Thirty-one samples of Chinese milk powder provided by 20 companies were found tainted with melamine after new testing, according to data seen Wednesday on China's food safety administration's Web site. Five of those companies had already been fingered in the scandal. Product safety officials could not be reached for comment.
The scandal has sparked global concern about Chinese food imports and recalls in several countries of Chinese-made products including milk powders, biscuits and candies such as the widely sold White Rabbit sweets, which have been pulled from shelves in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
An additional 31 batches of Chinese milk powder were found contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine, China's government said Wednesday, further broadening a scandal affecting products ranging from baby formula to chocolate.
The contamination has been blamed for the deaths of four children and kidney ailments among 54,000 others. More than 13,000 children have been hospitalized and 27 people arrested in connection with the tainting.
Melamine, which is high in nitrogen, is used to make plastics and fertilizers and experts say some amount of the chemical may be transferred from the environment during food processing. Melamine can cause kidney stones, leading to kidney failure. Health experts say ingesting melamine can lead to kidney stones, urinary tract ulcers, and eye and skin irritation. It also robs infants of much-needed nutrition.

Morning Sickness May Protect Embryos From Toxins
Doctors have long known that morning sickness — the nausea and vomiting usually experienced in early pregnancy — is actually a good sign of a healthy pregnancy, despite the discomfort it brings.
However, scientists have debated whether morning sickness actually helps pregnancies succeed.
It could just be an annoying byproduct of a healthy pregnancy, as pregnant women and their embryos carry out a tug of war over the body's resources.
When and why
To see which explanation might be right, scientists analyzed medical research to see when morning sickness does and does not occur.
If morning sickness was just the byproduct of a healthy pregnancy, then it should accompany all healthy pregnancies.
"But it doesn't," said researcher Samuel Flaxman, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Although two-thirds of pregnant women do experience morning sickness, the rest often carry their pregnancies to term.
Also, morning sickness does not seem to occur in other mammals, only humans, the researchers noted.
If morning sickness was the byproduct of conflict between mother and embryo or fetus, one might expect other mammals to have it too.
Instead, morning sickness is usually triggered in specific circumstances — in response to:
- the sight, smell, or taste of meats and strong-tasting vegetables, which were historically likely to contain foodborne microbes or birth-defect-inducing chemicals;
- alcohol and cigarette smoke.

Cell Phone Use Linked to Male Infertility

Cell Phone or hands-free calls may affects Sperm to radiation, explains Ashok Agarwal, PhD, head of the andrology laboratory and the director of the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. To arrive at their findings, researchers collected semen samples from 32 men and divided each man's sample into two parts. They placed half of the semen samples 2.5 centimeters away from a 850 MHz frequency cell phone in talk mode for one hour. Most cell phones used in the U.S. are 850-900 MHz. They chose this distance because it is the typical distance between the testes and the trouser pockets. [source from here]

Home Birth as an option to birth your baby
How a woman choose to birth should be based on her needs and what feels right for her and her family. She should be educated about her options and empowered by her choices. Wherever a woman is most comfortable, supported and heard is the best place for her to birth her baby, whether that be at home, a birthing center or a hospital.Throughout history women have fought long and hard for the right to make decisions about their own bodies. Birthing is a natural ability with which women come naturally equipped. Shouldn’t we be able to choose how and where?
In addition, more than 90% of people worldwide were born at home!
If you are considering birthing at home, do your research. Find an experienced midwife or other birth companion. Ask them for a list of references or if you may contact other families whose births they've attended. If so, ask the family about their experience and satisfaction with that attendant. Be sure to select an attendant with whom your whole family is comfortable.
If your pregnancy so far so good..then might be safe for you to take homebirth as long as you have confidence. Make sure you have a good doctor or midwife to take care of all you need. And make sure your husband and all the family agree with your choice. [here is the source to know more]

Fasting and Your Biological Rhythms
Allah (all glory be to Him) tells us in the Holy Quran about Ramadan that, “(He wants you) to complete the prescribed period (of fasting), and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.” (2:185) Many benefits, in addition to the spiritual, result from completing this prescribed period of fasting. Do you know activities of fasting related to our biological rhythms.
Fasting improves the quality and intensifies the depth of sleep, a matter of particular importance to the aged who have much less stage three and four sleep (deep sleep). The processes of repair of the body and of the brain take place during sleep. Two hours of sleep during the month of Ramadan are more satisfying and refreshing than more hours of sleep otherwise!Muslims who fast regularly and who have experienced disturbed wakefulness/sleep cycles on a daily lunar annual basis, can adapt themselves much faster to different time zones during international travel and do not suffer from the ill effects of jet lag. Moreover, the social contact during the Tarawih congregational prayer and the other social-cum–spiritual activities act as zeitgebers which regulate any desynchronised biological rhythm. PRE-ECLAMPSIA
Typically, preeclampsia occurs after 20 weeks gestation (in the late 2nd or 3rd trimesters or middle to late pregnancy), though it can occur earlier. Proper prenatal care is essential to diagnose and manage preeclampsia. Preeclampsia, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) and toxemia are closely related conditions. HELLP Syndrome and eclampsia are other manifestations of the same syndrome. It is important to note that research shows that more women die from preeclampsia than eclampsia and one is not necessarily more serious than the other.
Globally, preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal and infant illness and death. By conservative estimates, these disorders are responsible for 76,000 maternal and 500,000 infant deaths each year. (the source is come from here...)

Jika Ibu Sakit Haruskah Stop Menyusui??
- ibu minum obat jenis kloramfenikol, tetrasiklinklin, metronidazol, quinolon
- waspadai bayi kuning jika ibu minum obat sulfonamid, cotrimoksazol, fansidar, dapsone

mempersiapkan kehamilan
Begitu pula jika Anda pernah menderita Rubella ataupun penyakit kelamin sebaiknya lakukan pemeriksaan sebelum terjadi kehamilan
Jadi jika terjadi infeksi lakukan pengobatan sedini mungkin. Semua jenis infeksi : flu, saluran kemih, infeksi vagina, atau infeksi lainnnya dapat diobati sebelum Anda hamil.(ysm)

Stretch mark? Siapa Takut

Stretch marks will appear because of a rupture of collagen in the middle layer of your skin (the dermis) that is visible on the skin's surface. This rupture is caused when the fibers that make up the dermis are stretched as your bump grows and eventually they will stretch too far and break. This effect is increased during pregnancy, due to the pregnancy hormonal changes that soften the collagen ligaments of the pelvis. This allows the tissue to stretch easily during childbirth which has an effect on the skin's collagen as well.
Stretch marks can range a great deal in size varying from a few millimeters to over 8cm in length. While you're most likely to find them on your bump, they can also appear on your breasts, bottom or thighs. (check the link from here)
